Ducati sprung up an emotional surprise at the Brazilian people. Unveiling a Ducati 1199 Panigale S Senna Limited Edition for the Two Wheels Motorcycle Show to be held in Sao Paulo, Ducati paid tribute to the legendary Brazilian Formula 1 World Champion Ayrton Senna, who passed away 20 years back in May 1994.
The Ducati 1199 Panigale S Senna Limited Edition motorcycle has been produced in accordance with the Senna Foundation and would be sold exclusively to the Brazilian market in limited numbers. The 1199 Panigale S Senna would see a production number of 161 as a mark of honour signifying the number of F1 races Senna raced in. Also the livery combining colours of grey, black and red given to the motorcycle was chosen by the legendary driver himself when he visited the Ducati factory a few weeks before the ill-fated Imola Grand Prix in 1994.
The Ducati 1199 Panigale S Senna Limited Edition is not the first motorcycle paying homage to Senna. The very first bike from the Italian manufacturer was a Ducati 916SP named the “916 Senna I” finished in the same colour combination and offered in limited numbers of 300 units in 1995. Later in 1997 and 1998, two more special editions were announced by Ducati with the Ducati 916SP in similar livery called “916 Senna II” and “916 Senna III”.
The first motorcycle (1/161) would be displayed at the Two Wheels Motorcycle Show along with the earlier 916 Senna models.
The Ducati 1199 Panigale S Senna Limited Edition would be available for sale from June 2014 and come fitted with a race exhaust. Each motorcycle would have the production number inscribed on top of the fork clamp.
